Mechanical Design Engineer-Essex

About the Job:

Exciting and diverse role in the Technical & R&D team to develop a  range of state-of-the-art equipment for the chemistry industry. 

You will be responsible for the following:

  • To develop, launch, and support innovative new products
  • Reporting to the Technical and R&D Manager
  • Designing products at component and system level and creating innovative solutions to meet customer requirements, including:
  • Prototypes, components, assemblies, jigs, product finish, material identification, manufacturing processes, etc.
  • Identification, evaluation and integration of electronic components, including power supplies, PCBs, motors, fittings, connectors, sensors, firmware, etc.
  • Managing and delivering individual projects
  • Supporting the transition of R&D projects into product release and production, including documentation, marketing material, instructions, production packs, BOMs, checking procedures, FATs, QA, testing, etc.
  • Estimating, designing and post sales project management of complex / large reaction systems:
  • Approx. 25% of role will involve estimating, designing and post sales project

Is this you?

A degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial design, or similar

5 years minimum working experience in an industrial or R&D environment with a track record of delivering projects on time and to budget

Design experience ideally including glass reactors and reactor system components

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials (e.g. machining, moulding, casting, sheet metal, glass blowing / manufacturing, coatings, etc.)
  • 3D SolidWorks
  • Working knowledge of electronics (e.g. motors, PCBs, etc.)
  • Customer-facing experience and experience sourcing materials from suppliers
  • Early-phase product manufacture and debugging experience
  • Fully IT literate with standard Microsoft Office packages (e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Full driving license (no specialist license is required)
