Communications & Social Media Officer

About The Role

This role is all about bringing real stories to life, showing how the organisation supports people facing homelessness and how the wider community can be part of that journey. You’ll create thoughtful, engaging and accessible content that reflects values of dignity, respect and belonging.

You’ll lead on daytoday social media activity, produce creative multiformat content, support fundraising campaigns and help grow an engaged, supportive online community. Working within the communications and fundraising team, youll ensure consistent branding, tone of voice and valuesled storytelling across all platforms.

Key responsibilities

Content creation & planning

  • Plan, create and publish engaging content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Produce video, photography, graphics and written content that raises awareness and supports fundraising.
  • Contribute to the annual social media plan and campaign calendar.
  • Support visual design needs across the team, ensuring brand consistency.
  • Community engagement
  • Manage daytoday engagement, responding to comments and messages professionally and respectfully.
  • Build a positive, informed and connected online community.
  • Share stories ethically and inclusively, always prioritising dignity.
  • Campaign delivery. Plan and deliver social media activity for campaigns, events and awareness days.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure social media supports wider organisational goals.
  • Support collaborations with partners, supporters and content creators.
  • Help align paid and organic social activity.

Monitoring & Insight

  • Track performance using tools such as meta business suite, tiktok analytics and google analytics.
  • Identify trends and insights to improve content and engagement.
  • Produce monthly reports against social media targets.
  • Collaboration
  • Work closely with frontline, fundraising and retail teams to identify storytelling opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent messaging across platforms, adapting tone for each audience.
  • Build authentic, valuesled relationships with supporters and partners.
  • Support events and wider team activities as required.

What You’ll Need?

Essential

  • Experience managing and growing social media platforms.
  • Strong content creation skills across video, graphics and written formats.
  • Confident filming, editing and producing accessible, captioned content.
  • Experience using tools such as canva, adobe creative suite or capcut.
  • Excellent copywriting and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of social media trends and audience behaviour.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and work independently or collaboratively.
  • Commitment to the organisation’s mission, values and personcentred approach.

Desirable

  • Experience in a charity, social impact or purposeled organisation.
  • Understanding of paid social media and how it complements organic activity.
  • Experience working with partners, influencers or brand ambassadors.
  • Strong visual skills (design or photography).
