Thurrock is a unitary authority area with borough status in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames immediately east of London and has over 18 miles of riverfront including and no fewer than 3 international ports.
Thurrock has a unique cultural identity that includes 2 historic forts and many areas of wildlife and natural beauty. Its larger towns are Corringham, Grays, Purfleet-on-Thames, Stanford-le-Hope and Tilbury, yet Thurrock is 70% greenbelt with rural villages such as Bulphan, Orsett and Horndon on the Hill.
Thurrock has one of the largest shopping centres in the UK over 250 shops, 50 cafes and restaurants, and a 26-acre (110,000 m2) lake named Alexandra Lake with a PADI certified diving school complex.
