South Benfleet is a town and former civil parish, now in the unparished area of Benfleet, in the Castle Point district of Essex, England, 30 miles east of London.
Up until the time of the first Great War, Benfleet was a country townlet of four to five hundred people. Its famous for the battle of Benfleet which was one of the most complete victories gained over the Vikings on English soil up to that point.
Evidence of the battle was found during the construction of Benfleet railway station during the 19th century when human bones and charred timbers were discovered.
