Head of Strategic Account Management
Remote Based | Monday to Friday | 37.5 Hours
Lead and grow a high-value portfolio of complex, long-term customer contracts. You’ll set the standard for strategic account management, drive proactive renewals, strengthen executive relationships, and build a high-performing team—all while collaborating across Commercial, Finance, Operations, and Transformation teams to deliver results.
To be considered… you must have at least 3 years’ UK-based experience in a relevant strategic, commercial or customer-facing leadership role, alongside strong NHS knowledge (including approvals processes), experience leading large teams (10+ direct reports) and familiarity with MES frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Strategic Accounts with consistent, high-quality account management across a complex portfolio
- Drive growth, retention, and commercially sound renewals through insight-led account plans
- Strengthen executive-level customer relationships and ensure proactive renewal planning
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 10+ Strategic Account Managers
- Embed structured governance, performance tracking, and disciplined ways of working
- Work closely with Commercial, Finance, Operations, and Transformation teams to deliver measurable results
Qualifications & Professional Background
- Essential: At least 3 years’ UK-based experience in strategic account management, commercial or customer-facing leadership roles
- Essential: Proven ability to operate at a senior leadership level
- Degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Economics, Healthcare Management, or similar
- Desirable: Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MBA), professional accreditation (IAM, CIPS), or formal leadership/coaching training
Skills & Competencies
- Essential: Strong strategic account management skills including account planning, governance, and performance management
- Essential: Commercial and financial acumen; ability to interpret contracts, pricing models, and long-term value drivers
- Essential: Ability to operate at senior and Board level with credible communication and influencing skills
- Essential: Leadership of large teams (10+ direct reports)
- Essential: Strong stakeholder management; aligning multiple internal functions toward shared objectives
- Essential: NHS knowledge, including approvals and processes; familiarity with MES frameworks
- Ability to bring structure to complex environments, embed consistent ways of working, and make sound decisions under ambiguity
- Experience using data and insight to inform account strategy and performance tracking
Experience
- Essential: Proven leadership in strategic account management within complex, multi-stakeholder environments
- Essential: Experience managing or contributing to the retention and growth of long-term customer contracts
- Track record of embedding structured, scalable account management frameworks
- Experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including executives
- Experience working cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Commercial, and Transformation teams
- Experience in regulated sectors such as healthcare, public sector, or similar
- Experience supporting or leading contract renewals, extensions, or re-procurement
