Is there ever an ideal time to look for a new job?

6th June 2023

Most people think that the start of the New Year offers them the best opportunity to find a job, adopting an out with the old and in with the new approach but is this really true?

Timing your job search when companies are inundated with hundreds of job applications is not the best idea. It means that yours will have to stand, not just head and shoulders above the rest, but be so fine-tuned that it jumps out from the huge pile of CVs and over flowing mail boxes of human resource managers in your chosen area.

Why wait another six months to delay realising your dreams?

Think savvy, get ahead of the opposition and do it now.

Did you know?

According to Career Change Statistics, the average person will change jobs between 5-7 times meaning that by the age of 42 many of us will have had as many as 10 jobs, this is certainly the case if you factor in those initial holiday and student jobs too.

With 30% of the workforce changing jobs as often as every 12 months there is a lot of competition out there and you need to be on top of your game to have a fighting chance of finding your dream job.

Changing perceptions

These days, people rarely have a job for life often moving regularly to secure a promotion or to gain  experience. For those stuck-in-a-rut, or who seek a better work-life balance, the desire to find a job that is engaging and enjoyable is almost ,if not, more important than the financial reward.

The summer months are widely recognised as a slower pace of business but they actually provide potential applicants with the perfect time to make that break.

Recruitment industry trends

As recruitment specialists, we closely monitor the typical trends of the industry noticing a drop in job applicants during the summer months. This is probably the result of annual holidays, including HR managers themselves, or the assumption that it is better to wait for things to pick up again in the autumn.

This is such a wasted opportunity as companies recruit year round and means that we have many roles to fill that need high calibre candidates in June, July and August.

However the positive of this is that whilst it may be true that vacancies do dip a’ little’ over the summer, it means that candidates actively applying are in a stronger position with fewer applicants presenting for each role.

How we help candidates find the perfect job

As an award winning recruitment specialist we match candidates to their ideal jobs.

This is achieved by getting to really know our applicants first hand at the initial meeting. This personal hands-on approach means that when businesses contact us we know immediately which candidates are suitable. This speeds up the process considerably and helps us to match the right candidate to the perfect job.
