Field Automotive Diagnostics Technician
9–12 Month Contract | UK Field Based | £37-43k | Car Essential
This is a field based Field Automotive Diagnostics Technician role supporting the diagnosis, software updates, and technical maintenance of petrol, diesel, and electric fleet vehicles. The position involves travelling to customer sites across the UK to carry out vehicle programming, fault finding, and system updates using diagnostic tools. Working independently, you will ensure vehicles are maintained to the latest software standards, helping to maximise uptime and reliability for fleet operations. The role includes regular travel from home, with overnight stays depending on location and workload.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out vehicle diagnostics and software updates using diagnostic tools
- Perform fault-finding and technical assessment on petrol, diesel, and electric vehicles
- Programme and update vehicle control modules to latest specifications
- Travel daily from home base to customer locations
- Maintain and manage diagnostic equipment and software systems
- Provide on-site technical support to fleet customers
- Overnight stays depending on workload and geography
Skills & Experience Required:
- Experience in vehicle diagnostics or workshop/field technician roles
- Strong PC literacy and confidence using technical diagnostic software
- Familiarity with automotive diagnostic systems (training provided)
- Strong understanding of petrol, diesel, and electric vehicles
- Ability to work independently in a field-based environment
- Strong problem solving and fault-finding ability
- Excellent customer facing communication skills
