Purpose Of The Role

The role requires an Equipment Management Professional to deliver Clinical Engineering support across HCA sites nationally, ensuring the safe, effective and compliant management of medical equipment. The post holder will lead and manage Service Managers, Engineers and onsite administrators to meet contractual SLA requirements and maintain high standards of service delivery. They will be responsible for driving continuous improvement and for the development and implementation of policies, processes, clinical governance frameworks and quality systems.

Must Have Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Clinical Engineering leader
  • HND Electronics or equivalent
  • Managerial experience (>5 years)
  • Biomedical experience (>10 years)
  • Degree in Management or equivalent experience
  • Detailed up-to-date knowledge of managing a wide range of medical equipment, including technical understanding
  • Strong knowledge of medical equipment and its application within patient-critical environments
  • A successful track record of managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience delivering services across multiple sites
  • Strong experience developing and implementing policies, processes, and quality systems
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of service delivery performance
  • The ability to lead proactively with accountability and professionalism
  • A passion for motivating teams and driving continuous improvement
  • The confidence to perform effectively within a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • 3 Years UK based relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Overall management and performance of the team in delivering safe and effective clinical services.
  • Achieving required KPI targets in line with customer SLA arrangements.
  • Leading the development and implementation of policies, processes and quality systems relating to medical devices.
  • Reviewing and updating existing procedures and developing a robust system for all aspects of clinical equipment management.
  • Line management and supervision of the team, including setting objectives, conducting appraisals, planning work schedules and providing mentoring and support, with full backing from the Operations Manager.
  • Ensuring good practice in equipment management, including planned and reactive maintenance, asset lifecycle management and service contract monitoring.
  • Recruiting, inducting, developing and supporting staff to achieve high levels of productivity.
  • Working with and supporting the Operations Manager to exceed contract KPIs and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Supporting customers as required to minimise disruption to hospital operations.
  • Building long-term relationships with customers, subcontractors and staff to ensure responsiveness and support.
  • Leading on customer escalations and ensuring complaints are dealt with promptly.
  • Working alongside contract and account managers to ensure customer requests are met.
  • Supervising and taking responsibility for the investigation of incidents involving medical devices.
  • Acting as the lead point of contact with MHRA, CQC, Health & Safety and other regulators, and implementing procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Conducting audits of clinical equipment, database content and record accuracy.
  • Uncontrolled when printed, ensure you have the current version before using this document.
  • Travelling to sites as required to support team engagement and customer relationships.
  • Undertaking any other duties that support the smooth operation and delivery of the service.
  • Contributing to the development of annual operating budgets for assigned contracts and monitoring performance against budget.
  • Supporting the Operations Manager and deputising as required for wider business projects.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Management or equivalent experience
  • HND Electronics or equivalent

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Managerial experience (>5 years)
  • Biomedical experience (>10 years)
  • Membership of RCT or IPEM (Desirable)
  • Experience with medical device management theory and policies
  • Customer focussed, confident meeting senior customer management
  • Computer literate (Windows) to include Microsoft Office
  • Excellent Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Detailed up-to-date knowledge of managing a wide range of medical equipment, including technical understanding
  • Able to work as part of a team or alone
  • Able to work to a deadline on various projects
  • Exceptional levels of personal responsibility
  • Strong aptitude for dealing with ambiguity, maturity, resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • People management skills: persuasion, negotiation and appropriate authoritative influence
